Bed-Based Treatment
Program

A Structured Path to Recovery and Mental Wellness

Bed-based treatment is a highly-structured thirty-day live-in treatment experience designed to equip clients with the tools they need to make sense of the negative effects of substance use, including emotional impacts.

Individualized care is developed through client-established goals so that participation may become more progressively client-driven. Discharge planning begins with admission, and continues with appropriate goal-review and goal-modification along the way. The client journey may continue with Extended Bed Based Treatment, Aftercare, an external referral to another service provider, or with return to the wider community.

Extended Bed Based Treatment

Extended Bed Based Treatment is designed in the acknowledgement that many of our clients also experience various forms of mental illness, including the negative effects of unresolved trauma. Many of the same structures of Bed Based Treatment are held in place, while the programming lens focuses more on client complexity and the need for developing techniques and strategies for seeking safety and self-soothing to support initial dialogue around life-trauma. Based upon the needs and progress of the client, Extended Bed Based Treatment may last thirty to sixty days.

The program consists of group programming and individual sessions. Clients attend 3 groups each weekday (a blend of DBT, relapse prevention, stage one trauma, and psychoeducational groups during the day and either a peer-led group or SMART recovery meeting in the evening), and a weekly review group on Saturdays.

Clients are assigned a case coordinator and together they work on care planning (setting goals for their time in treatment and beyond), and from there, case management and other things that come out of the care plan.

Access and Location

The treatment team includes Case Coordinators, Addiction Workers, a nurse, and a psychotherapist, as well as students from a variety of programs (Humber ADMH, TMU BSW, Windsor MSW, U of T medical students). Clients also have the opportunity to access medical care with an addiction medicine doctor, and consultation with a psychiatrist.

Clients can self-refer or be referred by another agency. Once on the waitlist, clients are expected to participate in our Engagement Program, checking in with our Engagement staff weekly and through group attendance.

The bed-based treatment program is comprised of 2 houses and can accommodate up to 30 individuals. The houses are located near Bloor and Dovercourt, a great area with easy subway access, library, parks, YMCA and lots of coffee shops. We work with men (and those who identify as men or are more comfortable seeking treatment for men) who are seeking support for their mental health and substance use challenges.
